Days after she eloped, burnt body of UP woman found in fields | India News – Times of India

Muzaffarnagar: Days after an 18-year-old eloped with her lover, her partially burnt body was found in a cane field in Uttar Pradesh‘s Muzaffarnagar on Friday. Sources in the police suspect that the woman was murdered by her relatives, who then attempted to burn her body to hide evidence of the crime.
Shardhanand Sharma, deputy superintendent of police (Fugana), said the girl, Komal Kumari of Sisauli village, and Shagun Kumar of Savtu in Shamli district were in a relationship. However, both their families did not approve of the match.
Unable to convince their families, the couple eloped some 25 days ago but Komal had returned home alone to Sisauli village recently.
Police are yet to ascertain if she had got married. After discovery of the body, police suspected that she was murdered by her relatives as no missing complaint had been lodged by her family. They have detained two members of the dead woman’s family. Further investigations are on.
