Bengaluru admin issues notice on uniform, experts call it ‘hasty’ | India News – Times of India

BENGALURU: The deputy director of public instruction (Bengaluru South) has issued a circular asking students to stick to the school uniform. This, however, has not gone down well with many educationists, who feel it’s a “hasty decision” when the matter is pending before the high court.
The circular, dated February 11, stated that classes will restart from Monday for standards 9 and 10 and all students must wear the uniform, which should not have any symbols or clothing items representing any religion. Block education officers (BEOs) should ensure that it is followed by schools under their jurisdiction. Schools have to update BEOs about the condition every hour to avoid untoward incidents.
Bylanjanappa told TOI that the circular was issued after a meeting with the district commissioner. “Following the high court order, until further orders, only school uniform should be allowed on campuses. The government has provided uniforms for government school students and they must wear it. In private schools, they should follow what the managements have prescribed,” he said.
A message that teachers should also follow the dress code was being circulated on social media along with the circular. “The circular is only for students,” he said. The commissioner of the department of public instruction, however, said he was unaware of the circular and his office had not issued it.
