VIJAYAWADA: The CBI arrested three more people, including the standing counsel of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, for allegedly making derogatory and defamatory comments against the judiciary and judges of the AP high court. The CBI took over the investigation from the state CID following a direction by the HC.
The CBI registered 12 FIRs and, initially, named 16 people as accused. Later, the CBI named one “Punch Prabhakar”, a US resident, as the 17th accused. In a recent hearing before the HC, the CBI stated that it identified eight more people and has registered a fresh FIR. tnn

The accused, who were arrested on Saturday, have been identified as Metta Chandra Sekhar Rao, standing counsel for the APLC, Gopalakrishna Kalanidhi, an advocate, and Ramesh Gunta, a software engineer from Hyderabad.
Police summoned the three for questioning and arrested them for not cooperating with the investigation. Police then produced them before the special court for CBI cases at Guntur on Saturday night. The court remanded the accused in judicial custody for 14 days.
CBI sleuths recently searched the houses of a YSRC functionary in Anantapur and some employees of AP Digital Corporation. So far, CBI has arrested 14 people for allegedly posting abusive and derogatory content against the judiciary.
