deshmukh: CBI searches Deshmukh CAs, finds ‘graft proof’ | India News – Times of India

NAGPUR: Fresh troubles seem to be brewing for former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh as the CBI teams from Delhi and Mumbai on Saturday conducted searches at the offices and residences of his chartered accountants (CAs) and those of their associate firms in a money laundering case against the NCP leader.
It is learnt that the teams went back with loads of evidence regarding alleged illegal transactions worth crores of rupees. Eight places in Nagpur and one in Mumbai were searched. The latest searches, which were conducted in collaborations with Nagpur CBI team, is a follow-up to a series of such actions against Deshmukh and his aides in Nagpur.
It’s learnt that CBI also rounded up the CAs for questioning and recording statements. Till filing of the report, it was not confirmed whether anyone has been arrested.
In presence of independent witnesses (panchas), CBI seized several accounting records, both online and offline details of money transfers, banking records in the name of Deshmukh and his associates, materials about benami properties and bogus documents created to allegedly conceal links with Deshmukh, his family members and his aides.
The places searched included residence of Deshmukh’s CA Sudhir Baheti and his offices, residence of Vishal Khatwani and his offices.
The agency also conducted searches at the offices and residences of Deshmukh’s associates for additional evidence, said sources. It’s learnt that some of their residences and offices have been searched for the second time.
During the course of investigations, CBI has unearthed fresh transactions in which Deshmukh and his associates had parked and channelled crores of rupees into his various construction projects in and around Nagpur and Mumbai, educational institution and other business ventures in the name of his associates and family members.
CBI also found money trails to different parts of Vidarbha and Maharashtra. The fresh evidence is likely to be placed before court to challenge the bail plea by Deshmukh who is in judicial custody.
