Lata Mangeshkar is a true legend. While she passed away on February 6, she continues to live with her music in the hearts of people. Every person who has had the opportunity to either work with the iconic singer or interact with her has had a story to narrate. Recently, on the stage of India’s Got Talent, lyricist Manoj Munatshir shared an emotional story about Lata Mangeshkar.

In a promo video from the grand premiere of the reality show, Manoj Muntashir is heard saying, “Mere zindagi ka pehla geet jo maine likha tha woh Lata Mangeshkar ji ne gaya tha. Ek din mujhe phone aata hai Lata ji ka- ‘ek geet aap mere liye likhe jo Ram pe ho’. Mai sekdo gaane likh chuka hu. Ek adhura geet jo maine unke liye likha par woh kabhi gaa nahi paayi , woh jeevan bhar mere seene mai phas bankar khatakta rahega. Chali gayi did aur kaise gayi. Kisine kaha tha kahani khatam hui aur aisi khatam hui ki log rone lage taaliyan bajate hue.(The first song I ever wrote was sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Once she called me up and said, ‘Write a song for me on Lord Ram. I have written many songs but the song which I wrote for her which she could never sing will always bother me. She left and how. Someone had said that the story is over but in such a way that it left people crying and clapping at the same time)”.

Muntashir has penned the lyrics of several hit Hindi songs including ‘Galliyan’ from Ek Villain, ‘Tere Sang Yaara’ from Rustom, ‘Teri Mitti’ from Kesari, among others. He has also penned scripts for shows like India’s Got Talent and Indian Idol Junior. Muntashir wrote the Hindi dialogues for Baahubali 2.
