Maharashtra daily Covid tally drops to 47-day low; deaths too fall by 46% | India News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Continuing with a declining trend, Maharashtra‘s daily Covid-19 tally dropped to a 47-day low on Sunday while Mumbai’s daily detection dropped to below 300, the lowest in the third wave.
The state added 3,502 cases, the lowest since December 28 (2,172); fatalities also dropped by 46% from 32 on Saturday to 17 on Sunday, the lowest in 34 days since January 10 when 8 deaths were reported. Meanwhile, the test positivity rate in the city dipped below 1%, with 288 cases detected on Sunday.
While the rate was 0.72% on Sunday, it was 0.88% the previous day. The daily tally is the lowest since December 20 when 191 cases were detected. Only a single death was recorded in the city.
At the start of the third wave in late December 2021, the daily test positivity rate had climbed to over 25% on certain days. It dropped below 5% in the last fortnight. “The downward trend is clear across the state. While cases will not come to naught, the daily tally will hit a minimum within the next two weeks,” said an official.
BMC officials will wait for another fortnight before taking a final call on winding up most of the jumbo centres. Active cases in the state and the city dropped further on Sunday. Active cases dropped to under 50,000 in the state, of which 2,677 were in Mumbai. TNN
