Free power to UP farmers for 5 years if BJP wins: Amit Shah | India News – Times of India

AGRA: Union home minister Amit Shah promised free gas cylinders to all UP residents and free power to the state’s farmers for the next five years “within days” of a new BJP government being voted to power in Lucknow. Shah was addressing a public meeting in the heart of the Samajwadi Party stronghold Manipuri on Tuesday, reports Anuja Jaiswal.
BJP, in its manifesto that was released on February 8, had mentioned providing free power for irrigation to farmers, along with giving grants to set up borewells, tubewells, ponds and tanks. It also promised two gas cylinders to residents under the Ujjwala scheme on Holi and Diwali every year. Shah said, “Counting is on the 10th (of March), and then comes the Holi celebrations. Bring the BJP government to power in the state, free gas cylinders will be sent to your houses on March 18 (Holi). No farmers will have to pay electricity bills for the next five years.”
Shah launched a scathing attack on SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on his home turf and said, “SP and the BSP led to the crumbling of UP’s economy. The state’s economy was on the seventh spot in the country during the rule of SP and BSP. The Yogi-led BJP government brought the state to the second position within five years…Give another chance to the BJP to take UP to the top position”.
Addressing the youth, the BJP leader referred to the abolition of Article 370 and the Kashmir issue and said, “(Narendra) Modi was made prime minister and the bill was brought to Parliament. All opposition parties opposed it. Akhilesh said it would lead to a ‘bloodbath’ but no one could do anything and the Article was abolished.”
Mainpuri has four assembly constituencies, including the hot seat of Karhal, from where the SP chief is contesting against BJP nominee and Union minister SP Singh Baghel. It will go to polls in the third phase of voting on February 20. In the 2017 assembly elections, though SP won three out of the four constituencies, BJP had managed to clinch one seat, Bhongaon, in the SP bastion.
