India reports 26k new Covid cases, the lowest this year | India News – Times of India

The third wave continued to abate rapidly in the country, with daily cases on Monday dropping to the lowest recorded this year and deaths staying below 300 for the second day running.
India reported 25,970 fresh cases on Monday (with data from one state awaited), the lowest single-day tally since December 31, last year, when 22,706 cases were logged, as per TOI’s Covid database.
Cases witnessed a steep drop from Sunday’s total of 34,794, in line with the sharp dip in detections on Mondays due to lower testing and staff shortages over the weekend. Monday’s positive cases came out of 10.7 lakh tests on the previous day, lowest since January 2.
There were 278 deaths from the virus reported on the day, up marginally from 265 on Friday.
