Convey BJP not against Muslim women, party brass tells Karnataka netas | India News – Times of India

BENGALURU: The central BJP leadership has taken serious note of developments stemming from the hijab controversy in Karnataka and asked local leadership and the state government to convey a clear message to stakeholders that the party is not against Muslim women and that enforcement of dress codes is left to individual institutions, party members said.
BJP legislators revealed that the high command has asked local leaders to exercise restraint and work to end the row without hurting the party’s electoral prospects.
“The high command has issued an advisory on the situation,” said Y Bharat Shetty, BJP MLA from Mangalore City. “While they have not given any specific instructions about the hijab row, the inference is that the local leadership and the state government should reach out to stakeholders and take them into confidence.” He said meetings are being convened locally with stakeholders, including members of communities, managements of educational institutions and parents of students.
