Theft accused and four Gujarat cops among 17 killed, several injured in road accidents | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: As many as 17 people were killed while dozens were injured in separate road accidents across the country on Tuesday.
Five people, including four Gujarat Police personnel and a theft accused, died when the vehicle in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near Manijhar on Delhi-Jaipur highway, some 90km away from Jaipur early Tuesday. The accused had been arrested from Delhi by Gujarat Police. Cops said the accident took place around 1. 15am when the police team along with the accused were heading to Gujarat from Delhivia Jaipur.
In MP, a pick-up van carrying 19 workers from West Bengal crashed in Shivpuri district in the early hours of Tuesday, killing four of them and injuring others. The labourers were going to an overbridge construction site near Gora-Tila, 30km from Shivpuri town.
In Jharkhand, four people were killed and five critically injured in an accident involving six vehicles at Patel Chowk on NH-33 under Ramgarh town police station on Tuesday. The accident occurred after the driver of a trailer, which was on way from Ranchi to Ramgarh, lost control and hit two small cars, one SUV and two motorcycles. Later on, it overturned.
In Maharashtra, four men bound for Mantralaya on the Mumbai-Pune expressway were killed after a truck hit their car from behind. One of them, Gaurav Kharat (36), is the president of Congress party’s Solapur (SC/ST) unit.
The collision, which took place in slowing moving traffic on a downward gradient at the Bhor ghat near Khopoli around 6. 30am on Tuesday, led to a fourvehicle pile-up.
