Akal Takht attacked during Congress regime: BJP | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday urged the people of Punjab to vote for the party-led alliance for a “double engine” government to remove the problems of drugs, corruption and unemployment and take the state’s development to new heights. The party said the Modi government has always respected the sentiments of the Sikhs unlike the Congress dispensation under which ‘Akal Takht’ was attacked with tanks and guns, a reference to ‘Operation Bluestar’.
BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the Congress governments had got three chances to integrate Kartarpur Sahib but they lost all those opportunities, “because for Congress, sentiments of Sikhs did not matter”. “The Congress sent tanks to raze Akal Takht, the most powerful seat of temporal authority in Sikhism, while home minister Amit Shah paid obeisance there and asked what the government can do for them,” Sirsa said.
