Rijiju: Court must be mindful of Lakshman rekha | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In his first reaction to the SC suspending the sedition law, law minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday told reporters that the court should be mindful of its “Lakshman rekha (boundary)” as should the government.
The minister looked visibly upset with the court virtually pausing the operation of the sedition law despite the government’s request on Tuesday not to pass an order until the Centre had completed the re-examination of the controversial penal provision. “We have a clear demarcation of boundaries and that ‘Lakshman rekha’ should not be crossed by anybody,” Rijiju said here after an event. He, however, qualified his comments saying, “We respect each other… the court should respect the government, the legislature, so as the government should respect the court.” tnn
