The Cyber Crime Branch has apprehended an individual from Chhindwara accused of defrauding board exam candidates across Madhya Pradesh. The suspect allegedly misled students by promising access to Class 10 and 12 examination papers, exploiting their trust through fraudulent Telegram groups. These groups, created using the official logo of the Madhyamik Shiksha Mandal (MP Board), were used to extort money from unsuspecting children preparing for their exams.
Authorities confirmed that one accused has been arrested in connection with the scam, which targeted vulnerable students during a critical academic period. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Shailendra Singh Chauhan revealed that the investigation has led to action against four Telegram groups involved in the scheme so far. “The accused preyed on students by offering fake papers in exchange for payments,” Chauhan stated, adding that efforts are ongoing to identify and dismantle similar operations.
The scam came to light after complaints from parents and students who grew suspicious of the Telegram groups’ promises. The use of the Madhyamik Shiksha Mandal logo lent an air of legitimacy to the fraud, prompting swift action from the Cyber Crime Branch. While one arrest has been made, officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional suspects being involved as the investigation progresses.
This incident has raised concerns about the growing prevalence of cyber fraud targeting students, particularly during exam season. Authorities have urged parents and candidates to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police or the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. The case underscores the challenges of combating digital scams in an era of increasing reliance on online platforms.
