Delhi: Man Found Dead in Locked Bus at Nand Nagri Depot

On June 9, 2025, at around 7:52 AM a local passerby called the police complaining about a foul smell coming from a locked tourist bus at Northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri bus stand. When officers arrived and opened the vehicle, they found a dead body, the body of Shiva, a 32-year-old helper from Gamri’s Pushta, lying lifeless in the front stairwell, his body already beginning to decay.

Shiva’s death was as puzzling as it was sorrowful. A visible wound on his head suggested a possible accident, perhaps a fall, according to initial police reports. The bus, parked quietly amid the depot’s daily activity, provided no clear answers about why Shiva was there or how he died. The intense heatwave in Delhi, with temperatures reaching 44°C, sped up the decay and made the odor worse. This led to the discovery of a man whose life ended unnoticed in a space meant for transit and connection.

Investigators are trying to piece together the mystery. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the bus stand to track Shiva’s last movements or see if anyone else approached the vehicle. His body was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital’s mortuary, where a post-mortem is expected to clarify whether his head injury resulted from a tragic accident or something more troubling. With inquest proceedings underway, police are being careful, considering every possibility until they uncover the truth.

On the same day, another sad incident occurred across the city in Vikaspuri. Authorities found 55-year-old Rakesh Kumar dead inside a locked car near PVR Cinema, also revealed by a troubling smell. While his death showed no visible injuries, it mirrored Shiva’s in its isolation. Authorities confirmed that the two cases are unrelated. Confusion about “two bodies in a bus” seems to come from mixed reports on these separate losses. Only Shiva was found in the Nand Nagri bus; his story stands alone.
