Budget session of Parliament begins today, President to address joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament

The budget session of Parliament will begin from today. The session will begin with President Draupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the Central Hall. On the first day of the session, the Economic Survey will be tabled in both the Houses today. The budget for the financial year 2023-24 will be presented tomorrow. The budget session will continue till April 6. There will be 27 meetings in 66 days. The first part of the session will run till February 13. There will be no action of the House from February 14 to March 12 and during this time the parliamentary standing committees related to the departments will review the demands for grants and prepare reports related to their ministries and departments. The second part of the budget session will start from March 13 till April 6.

An all-party meeting was held in the Parliament House complex yesterday ahead of the budget session of the Parliament. The meeting called by the government was attended by Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Prahlad Joshi, Piyush Goyal and others. The government sought cooperation of all political parties to ensure smooth functioning of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, Trinamool Congress’s Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Marxist Communist Party’s Elamaram Karim, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Manoj Jha, Aam Aadmi Party’s Sanjay Singh, Bharat Rashtra Samithi MP K Keshav Rao and Biju Janata Dal leader Sasmit Patra attended the meeting. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the government is ready to discuss any issue in Parliament as per rules and procedures.
