Jamshedpur, September 22, 2024: The three-day Training-cum-Workshop on Avian Care and Captive Breeding at Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP), Jamshedpur, concluded successfully. Organized for 10 different zoos under the West Bengal Zoo Authority, the workshop aimed to enhance avian care and breeding practices.

The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Rajesh Chouhan, Regional Director (Animal Husbandry), Kolhan Range, as the Chief Guest. The program was inaugurated on September 20 by Capt. Amitabh, Hon. Secretary of Tata Steel Zoological Society.

Dr. Sulata Maity, Scientific Officer at the West Bengal Zoo Authority (WBZA), expressed her gratitude to Tata Steel Zoological Park and Curator Dr. Sanjay Kumar Mahato for organizing the enriching training program. She highlighted the potential for future collaborations between Tata Zoo and the West Bengal Zoo Authority. Research Assistant Anwesha Dey and Veterinary Assistant Sanjit Pandit shared their positive experiences from the workshop.

The workshop included 14 technical sessions, split between classroom learning and field visits. Notable speakers included Dr. Seema Rani, Biologist cum Education Officer, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Mahato, Curator TSZP, and Dr. Sanjit Kumar, Assistant Veterinary Officer. The event was supported by dedicated zoo staff and compered by volunteer Sayok Sarkar.

All 13 participants received certificates of completion for the workshop, which focused on avian care and captive breeding with a special reference to the African Grey Parrot. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Seema Rani, with the presence of Dy. Director (GA) Naim Akhtar and other zoo staff.
