New Delhi, September 27, 2024 – Today, the world unites to celebrate World Tourism Day, an annual event held on September 27th to highlight the vital role of tourism in connecting people and boosting economies. This year’s theme, ‘Tourism and Peace,’ underscores the industry’s potential to foster global harmony and sustainable development for future generations.

In New Delhi, the Ministry of Tourism is hosting a grand celebration to mark the occasion. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will address the event, emphasizing the importance of tourism in fostering development and global harmony. The ministry will also announce the winners of the Best Tourism Village Awards, recognizing communities that have excelled in promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism.

Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organisation, Zurab Pololikashvili, highlighted the significance of tourism in building trust and respect, driving inclusive growth, and safeguarding against conflict. “Tourism builds trust and respect, and it drives inclusive growth and safeguards against conflict,” he said.

Tourism is a cornerstone of economic growth and development. It boosts revenue, creates jobs, and fosters cultural exchange. Countries with robust tourism sectors often experience faster economic recovery and growth. For instance, tourism contributes significantly to the GDP of many nations, supporting various sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and retail.
