Delhi-NCR to Experience Heavy Rainfall: IMD Issues ‘Orange’ Alert

 

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange alert’ for Delhi-NCR, indicating heavy rainfall over the next four days. Here are the key details:

  1. Rainfall Forecast:
    • Delhi-NCR is expected to witness moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds (speeds between 30 to 40 kmph).
    • The maximum temperature on Sunday is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius.
    • The ‘orange alert’ for heavy rain will persist until July 3 in the national capital.
  2. Recent Rainfall Situation:
    • Parts of Delhi experienced rainfall on Saturday morning, with areas like Rohini and Burari receiving showers.
    • On Friday, the first day of heavy rain this season, Delhi received approximately one-third of its total monsoon rainfall.
    • Six rain-related deaths were reported on Saturday, raising the toll to 11 in the first two days since the monsoon arrived.
  3. Precautions:
    • Authorities are implementing measures to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming heavy rain days.
    • The monsoon arrived in Delhi on Friday morning, with the city recording 228.1 mm of rainfall—the highest for June since 1936.
