India’s first Overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra opened in Mauritius

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar yesterday virtually launched the India’s first overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra in Mauritius, thereby raising the new standard for cheap medicine abroad. Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth was present at the inauguration; thus, indicating the countries’ cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced it earlier this year that the Centre will open outlets in every district to sell affordable medicines and the Jan Aushadi Kendra is the Centre’s promise in action, Dr. Jaishankar said on social media. It will be a cost effective source of quality made in India medicines to improve the existing and emerging health care needs of the people of Mauritius.
In the morning, Dr. Jaishankar also launched the Mediclinic project at Grand Bois in Mauritius for which the Indian grant assistance was provided. The number of beneficiaries receiving secondary healthcare services according to the project is approximately 16000 people in the Grand Bois area.
Inaugurating the event, Dr. Jaishankar, said that it is a health sector and he was privileged to be in a position to help. The India-Mauritius health partnership project is being deemed important, and he averred, ‘health is a priority, and all of us have become health conscious’.
The Jan Aushadi Kendra and Mediclinic project evidently depict India’s intention to revamp and widen the healthcare tie between the two countries for the betterment of the Mauritius populace.
