India’s Best- ever performance at International Mathematics Olympiad: PM applauds the winners
The Indian team of six members have created history by giving India’s best-ever performance in IMO since India’s debut in 1989 both in terms of medals and rank achieved. An Indian contingent of six students secured 4th position globally in the International Mathematical Olympiad held in the United Kingdom’s Bath City.
The team ranked 4th out of 108 participating countries. Before this India’s best performance was in 2001 and 1998 with rank 7. The team was led by Professor Krishnan Sivasubramanian of the Department of Mathematics at IIT -Bombay. It was being trained at the IMO training camp held at Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI).
The team had Adhitya Mangudy Venkata Ganesh(Grade 11 from Pune), Rushil Mathur(Grade 12 from Mumbai), kanav Talwar(Grade 10 from Noida), and Ananda Bhaduri(Grade 12 from Guwahati)- all these won gold medals while Arjun Gupta(Grade 12 from Delhi) won a silver medal and Siddharth Choppara( Grade 12 from Pune) won an honourable mention.
The total score of India at the Olympiad was 167, which is only a mark behind South Korea which ranked third, while the USA with a score of 192 secured the first rank and China ranked second in the Olympiad. In total, all 609 students ( 528 male and 81 female ) took part in 2024 IMO.
Following the great achievement of the Indian team Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the India team on social media post on X.

“Our contingent has brought home 4 golds and one silver medal. This feat will inspire several other youngsters and help make mathematics even more popular. “
The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) is a global-level mathematics competition for high school students, it is the oldest of the international science Olympiad. IMO is the most prestigious mathematics competition in the world.
