Pune is facing severe disruptions as heavy rain leads to school closure, traffic jams, and tree fall incidents. It has also caused waterlogging in several areas of Pune, which includes Kolhapur, leading to residential flooding.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued “red alert” in the area. Three people at Deccan Gymkhana area were electrocuted in the early hours of Thursday, while trying to move their handcart that got submerged due to heavy rains in Pune. Rescue operations has also been started as two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have joined rescue work at Ekta Nagar locality after the fire department started rescuing people by boats. Water level has increased up to waist level in Pune.
Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, has reviewed the situation and asked the district administration to stay alert. The District Collector Suhas Diwase has ordered the closure of schools in several areas as a precaution. The area includes Khadakwasla, Bhor, Velha, Maval, Mulshi, Haveli Talukas, Pune City and Pimpri Chinchwad. He has also ordered the closure for all the tourists spots in the district. The administration has also asked people living in Pune to stay indoors and step out only if it is necessary.

Strong moving winds and persistent rain has resulted in numerous tree fall incident and severe traffic jams across the region. Chief Fire Officer, stated that citizens should report such incidents promptly and avoid standing near old trees.
Mumbai is also experiencing heavy rainfall including some areas like Dombivali which have been flooded. Due to waterlogging, area like Andheri Subway has been closed. Vihar Lake, which is known as one of the seven lakes supplying water to the city, started flowing early today, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.

Due to heavy rainfall, commuters are facing long delays, especially in the areas such as Hinjewadi Information Technology Park. ” It took me 80 minutes to reach from Wakad Square to Hinjewadi Phase 3, which usually is a 40 minutes drive”, said by Manasi Aradhye, an employee of MNC.
Pune has been red alerted and it is advised to the residents to stay indoors and follow all the precautions during this red alert phase.
