The three students, including two women and one man, identified as Taniya Soni, Shreya Yadav, and Naveen Dalvin, died in the flooding at the Delhi coaching centre. All the three students were Civil Service aspirants and were studying at Rau’s IAS Coaching Institute. Taniya Soni belonged to Telangana, Shreya Yadav belonged from Uttar Pradesh and Naveen Dalvin was from Ernakulam, Kerala.

Police said, Institution’s basement was flooded with water following rainfall in the capital on Saturday 27, evening. The incident took place at Rau’s IAS Study Circle at Bada Bazar Marg in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. The basement of the coaching centre was flooded due to heavy rainfall, which led trapping the students inside.

A rescue operation was carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police and fire department. The bodies of the three students were recovered during the rescue operation.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief, Atul Garg, received a call about waterlogging from the Rao IAS Study Circle at around 7 pm. Atul Garg stated, ” The owner of the institute informed us that three to four students were missing…Since the basement was flooded and the road outside the institute was also waterlogged, clearing water became difficult. Teams of the NDRF and other agencies also joined the rescue operation.”

An official stated, “A total five tenders were rushed to the site. The basement was full of water.” Another official added, “The bodies of two female students and a male student were retrieved from the site during the rescue operation by the NDRF, local police and fire department.

Police officer also mentioned that there were approx. 30 students inside the coaching centre. 13 to 14 students were rescued and taken to the hospital, while other managed to escaped the site.

An investigation has been ordered into the incident, and a case has been registered against the coaching centre. The owner and the coordinator of the institute has been detained for further investigation.

Many institute students held a protest outside the coaching centre, raising slogans against the authorities. Three students death lead to massive protest. Parliamentary forces have been called into keep the situation under control.

A protestor said, “If this is the situation after 30 minutes of rain, who is responsible? No one has come to talk to us or given any assurance. Who will fix responsibility?”

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has directed the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation to take strict actions against the coaching centre across the national capital that are running commercial activities in the basements which are in violation of building by-laws and not as per norms. She added that an immediate inquiry will be conducted to identify if any officers of MCD are responsible for this tragedy. If any official is found guilty, the strongest possible action must be taken against the.

The loss of three young lives in pursuit of dreams is a heartbreaking of the risks and challenges faced by the students. The tragic incident at Rau’s IAS Coaching Centre will act as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety, security and better infrastructures in educational institutions. The deaths of Taniya Soni, Shreya Yadav and Naveen Dalvin are big loss for their families and friends. We hope that the authorities take immediate actions to address these concerns and prevent such incidents in future.
