Jamshedpur, September 8, 2024 – As part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada from 1st to 15th September 2024, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam’ campaign, a special Plantation and Adoption Drive aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and honouring the nurturing spirit of motherhood through nature.

Campaign Launch and Objectives

The ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam’ initiative, set for September 15, 2024, calls upon students, faculty, and staff to plant a tree in dedication to their mothers or a mother figure in their lives. The campaign highlights the vital connection between nurturing both our loved ones and the environment, fostering a sense of responsibility for the planet’s future generations.

Tree Plantation and Adoption Drive

This drive, aligned with the Swachhata Pakhwada theme of cleanliness and environmental protection, will take place across the NIT campus. Participants will not only plant a tree but also adopt and care for it. To officiate the adoptions, tags were hung on the plants with the adopter’s names on them. The adoption program encourages long-term care and responsibility, helping create a greener and more sustainable campus environment.

Community Participation and Support

Prof. Gautam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “This campaign is a heartfelt tribute to mothers, linking the act of nurturing nature to the care and love we receive from our mothers. It’s an opportunity for the NIT community to contribute positively to the environment while reflecting on the role each of us plays in preserving our planet.” Professor R. V. Sharma, Deputy Director and Registrar Dr. Nisheeth Kumar Rai, Mr. Nigam Prakash, Dr. Kanika Prasad, Dr. Jayendra Kumar, along with other faculty, staff, and students – totalling about 50 individuals – actively participated in planting saplings. They have also adopted the saplings by attaching tags with their names to them. A special guest of the institute, Dr. Suvrokamal Dutta, Director (I) of MDS IndoCan Inc., graced the event with his presence and participated in the plantation.

Leadership and Vision

Dr. Naveen Kumar Veldurthi, Nodal officer for Swacchata HI Seva added that ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam’ campaign is an integral part of NIT Jamshedpur’s broader ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada activities, which include cleanliness drives, painting competition, Digital Poster and Creative video competitions, eco-friendly practices, and awareness programs. These efforts support national objectives of environmental conservation and sustainable development.
