Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh – Dr. Kunwar Vijay Shah, Minister of Tribal Affairs, Public Asset Management, and Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation, has emphasized the importance of training and employment for women and educated youths from gas-affected families. In a recent review meeting at the Gas Relief Directorate, Dr. Shah outlined a comprehensive plan to link these individuals to employment and self-employment opportunities, aiming to make them self-reliant.
Dr. Shah urged the use of the Madhya Pradesh Employment and Skill Training Council (MAPSET), a training institute under the Tribal Affairs Department, to provide employment-oriented training to all those in need. He stated that the Gas Relief Department should cover the costs associated with this training.
During the meeting, Dr. Shah highlighted specific training programs for women, including sewing, knitting, and embroidery. For educated youths, he recommended computer and paramedical courses. Additionally, he suggested that eighth-grade pass youths should receive training in driving heavy vehicles, such as trucks, JCBs, and Poklane machines. Dr. Shah stressed the importance of collaborating with major heavy vehicle manufacturing companies to facilitate this training.
Principal Secretary of Public Health and Family Welfare and Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Sandeep Yadav, Director of Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Swatantra Kumar Singh, and other departmental officers were present at the meeting.
Dr. Shah also addressed the need for a thorough review of the medical needs of gas victims. He instructed five senior doctors to assess whether long-term patients still require their medications and to check for any misuse of medicines provided by Gas Relief hospitals.
Security measures in Gas Relief hospitals were another key point of discussion. Dr. Shah called for the installation of biometric impression machines and CCTV cameras to prevent unauthorized access. He also directed the removal of encroachments on land and premises owned by the Gas Relief Department in Bhopal city.
Regarding the disposal of chemical waste at the Union Carbide premises, Dr. Shah emphasized the need for safe and precautionary measures. He insisted that any action taken should be reported to the government and coordinated with the administration of the districts involved in the transportation route, along with the Bhopal district and police administration.
