Flood Alert in Kannauj: Ganga and Kali Rivers Approach Danger Mark
Rising Rivers Cause Flood Alert in Kannauj
Kannauj, September 19, 2024 – The escalating water levels in the Ganga and Kali rivers have triggered a flood alert in Kannauj district, with the Ganga’s water level nearing the danger mark. This rise in water levels has led to flooding in two villages, Kasimpur and Bakshipurwa, located along the banks of the Ganga.
Flood Impact and Evacuation
The flood waters have breached the banks, affecting around three dozen villages across the district. An estimated 5,000 bighas of agricultural land have been submerged, devastating crops and livelihoods. In response, the administration has issued a mandatory evacuation call for the residents of Kasimpur and Bakshipurwa.
Administrative Response and Relief Efforts
District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukla, on a recent visit to the flood-hit area of Katri Kasimpur, assessed the situation firsthand. During his inspection, he visited a relief camp set up in Katri Gangpur Gram Panchayat to review the facilities provided. “We are monitoring the river’s water level continuously,” stated Shukla, ensuring that the administration is alert to any further rise in water levels.
Support for Displaced Families
Currently, 56 families have been relocated to safer locations. The district administration has pledged full support, with continuous distribution of hot meals and plans for distributing relief materials. Health services are actively involved, conducting medical tests to prevent health outbreaks, while the animal husbandry department is focusing on vaccinating livestock to safeguard them from potential diseases.
Preventive Measures and Health Advisory
Shubhrant Kumar Shukla emphasized the importance of hygiene to prevent disease outbreaks. He instructed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for clean drinking water, temporary sanitation facilities, and proper lighting in the relief camps.
Continued Vigilance and Community Cooperation
The district administration remains vigilant, urging the community to cooperate fully with evacuation orders and maintain cleanliness to avoid health-related complications. As the situation unfolds, the focus remains on providing immediate relief and planning for rehabilitation to mitigate the impacts of this natural disaster.
