Tata Zoo Kicks Off Wildlife Week 2024 Celebrations
Jamshedpur, October 2, 2024 – The Tata Steel Zoological Park, also known as Tata Zoo, commenced the Wildlife Week Celebrations 2024 today, marking the occasion with a vibrant kickoff event in honor of Gandhi Jayanti. The celebrations, running from October 2 to 6, aim to raise awareness about wildlife conservation among students through various educational and interactive activities.
The formal inauguration was graced by Saba Alam Ansari, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer of Jamshedpur, who emphasized the importance of wildlife preservation. Dr. Manik Palit, Deputy Director and Officer In-charge of Tata Zoo, highlighted the significance of conservation in his welcome address. Dr. Seema Rani, the Program Coordinator, outlined the week’s events, which include educational workshops, interactive sessions, and competitions.

Following the ceremony, an on-the-spot painting competition was held for students from various schools, categorized into middle and senior groups. The competition, themed around “Wildlife Conservation” and “Coexistence with Wildlife,” saw enthusiastic participation from 116 students across 15 schools. The winners will be announced during the closing ceremony on October 6.
The event also featured Dr. Naim Akhtar, Deputy Director of Tata Zoo, along with teachers, zoo staff, volunteers from Tata Steel Foundation, and others, contributing to the festive atmosphere.
Looking ahead, an interschool debate competition is scheduled for tomorrow at the Old Natural Education Center within the zoo premises, further engaging young minds on critical environmental
topics.
