On World Environment Day, PM Modi reinforces India’s green mission and calls for collective reforestation under the Aravalli Green Wall project. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi, reinforcing the message behind the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. The gesture marked a symbolic yet powerful step toward environmental conservation and the reforestation of the Aravalli range under the Aravalli Green Wall Project.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, PM Modi stated:
“Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we strengthened the #EkPedMaaKeNaam initiative with a special tree plantation drive. I planted a sapling at the Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi. This is also a part of our effort to reforest the Aravalli range – the Aravalli Green Wall project.”
The Aravalli range, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, spans across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi. However, over time, the region has faced growing environmental challenges due to deforestation, urbanisation, and climate pressures.
Highlighting the urgent need for eco-restoration, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to rejuvenating these critical green zones. He noted that, in addition to traditional plantation methods, innovative techniques will be introduced, especially in urban and semi-urban areas facing space constraints.
To ensure accountability and effectiveness, all plantation activities will be geo-tagged and closely monitored via the Meri Life portal, a digital platform designed to track sustainable initiatives under the Lifestyle for Environment (Life) movement.
The Prime Minister’s participation not only reflects India’s dedication to climate action but also aims to inspire citizens across the country to plant a tree in their mother’s name – making environmentalism a personal and emotional responsibility.
