JMC Deploys Water Sprayers to Combat Heatwave as Jammu Scorches at 44.5°C

Jammu, June 12, 2025. A severe heat wave is sweeping across six districts in the Jammu province of Jammu and Kashmir. The local community is doing something about it as temperatures are skyrocketing beyond the norm for this time of year. The Meteorological (MeT) Department said the heat has troubled Samba, Jammu, Kathua, Ramban, Udhampur, and Reasi as these districts recorded temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Samba was the hottest at 46.3°C temperature, followed by the Jammu city which recorded 44.5°C—both more than 5.7 degrees above normal. The gateway to Jammu and Kashmir Kathua recorded a high of 43.6°C while Ramban 43.5°C, Udhampur witnessed 42°C, followed by Reasi at 41.8°C and Katra — the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi shrine — 40.6°C, also registered an increase in the day temperature and so did Poonch which crossed the 40 mark, adding to the woes of the people.

They have dispatched water sprayers and tankers across the city to cool off the roads and public spaces, bringing welcome respite to pedestrians and commuters. The attempts are being made to mitigate the ill effect of the heat and to make the presence of public in this weather manageable.

The MeT Department has warned that the heatwave condition is likely to continue for the next couple of days and advised people to take precaution. Officials are urging people to keep an eye on the weather, and follow safety precautions.
