Jamshedpur, 24 November: A high-level team from Ranchi visited East Singhbhum district on Monday to check how the ongoing Leprosy Detection Campaign is going on. The campaign started on 10 November and will run till 26 November.
The state review team was led by Dr Dinesh Kumar, Director (Administration and Planning), Health Directorate, Jharkhand. Other members were Akay Minj, Dr Manir Ahmed and Dr Santana Kumari. Civil Surgeon Dr Sahir Pal welcomed them by giving each member a plant as a token of respect.
District Leprosy Officer Dr Ranjeet Kumar Panda told the team that 2289 teams and 320 supervisors have already checked more than 13.47 lakh people (13,47,198) by going house to house in the last two weeks. Anyone who looks like they might have leprosy is being brought to the nearest Ayushman Arogya Mandir or health centre for free tests.
The team first visited Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Sundernagar and then in Kalikapur. They talked to the health workers and CHOs (Community Health Officers) and asked questions about leprosy symptoms, wall writings and how they find suspected patients.
Dr Dinesh Kumar said every confirmed leprosy patient must also be tested for HIV, TB, diabetes and blood pressure. He was happy with the work being done.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sahir Pal said the health teams are working round the clock to give the best care to people. The state team went back satisfied with the district’s efforts.
