- Keeping Old Traditions Alive
A three-day workshop called Naqsh-e-Meeras just wrapped up at NIFT in Ompora, Budgam. It brought together local artisans and experts to talk about the area’s strong potential in handicrafts and how to keep traditional skills going for the future.
The event was all about sharing ideas and hands-on work. People from the craft world got to show off their talents and learn new ways to make their work better. Everyone agreed that Budgam has a lot to offer when it comes to handmade items, and events like this help boost the local economy.
One artisan shared how these gatherings make them feel proud of their roots. “It’s great to see young folks interested in our old ways,” he said. Experts also pointed out simple steps to protect these skills, like teaching them in schools or through community groups.
The workshop ended on a high note, with plans for more such meets. It’s a reminder of how important it is to value what makes our places special.
