In a significant move, the Bihar Health Department has decided to offer the MBBS course in Hindi as a medium of instruction, making it the second state in the country after Madhya Pradesh to do so. The facility will be available in all 21 medical colleges in Bihar, including 10 state government and two Central government-run institutions, from the upcoming academic session.
According to State Health Minister Mangal Pandey, the move aims to simplify medical education and encourage meritorious students from Hindi medium backgrounds to pursue medical studies. Students will have the option to choose between Hindi and English mediums.
The decision was made based on the recommendations of a state committee that studied the existing system of teaching medical courses in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh. The government has ensured the availability of Hindi textbooks and faculty for the MBBS course in Hindi.
This move is expected to benefit students from rural areas and those who have studied in Hindi medium schools, providing them with equal opportunities in medical education.
