In an effort to eradicate leprosy, the District Leprosy Prevention Officer, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur, organized a one-day leprosy-related training program for Sahyas at Community Health Centers in Chakulia and Dhalbhumgarh. The training aimed to educate Sahyas on leprosy symptoms, types, treatment, and disability prevention.

Dr. Rajiv Lochan Mahato, District Leprosy Consultant, East Singhbhum, emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment to prevent disability. He announced the Leprosy Rogi Khoj Abhiyan-2024 campaign, which will run from August 28 to September 13, 2024, to identify suspected leprosy patients and provide free treatment at government health centers.
Regional Coordinator of Damien Foundation, Shri Kamdev Besra, reiterated that leprosy is a bacterial disease, not a curse or sin, and encouraged Sahyas to bring suspected patients to hospitals for confirmation and treatment. He also highlighted the importance of self-care and reconstructive surgery to cure disability.
MPW Sangeeta Chaki and PMW Prabir Mandal emphasized the significance of self-care and post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent leprosy. The training program was made successful with the contributions of Block Program Manager Satish Verma, Block Accounts Manager Pranay Behuria, Sanjay Chatterjee, and Duryodhan Bagati of Damien Foundation.
