Lima, Peru – October 2024 – The Indian shooting contingent continues to reign supreme at the ISSF Junior World Championship, adding another five gold medals to its tally on Day Four. The event, held in Lima, Peru, has showcased the prowess of young Indian shooters, particularly in the rifle and pistol categories.
Divanshi, a rising star in the shooting arena, clinched her first individual gold in the women’s 25m pistol event, narrowly defeating Italy’s Cristina Magnani by two points. Her score of 35 not only secured her the top spot but also a bronze for France’s Heloise Fourre. The success didn’t stop there for Divanshi; together with teammates Tejaswini and Vibhuti Bhatia, they captured the junior women’s 25m pistol team gold.
Mukesh Nelavalli, already a prominent figure at the championships, further cemented his reputation by winning two more gold medals. His victory in the junior men’s 25m Pistol individual event, with a score of 585, was closely followed by teammate Suraj Sharma, who took silver. The duo, along with Pradhyumn Singh, later triumphed in the team event, narrowly defeating Poland.
The fifth gold came from the junior men’s 50m rifle team event, where Shourya Saini, Vedant Nitin Waghmare, and Parikshit Singh Brar combined for an impressive score of 1753, outpacing their competitors.
Currently, India leads with 14 medals, including 10 golds, marking a significant achievement in the championships which also feature shotgun events and will conclude on October 6.
