In a momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian men’s cricket team at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday, congratulating them on their historic T20 World Cup 2024 victory. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, had arrived in India from Barbados earlier in the day.

During the one-hour meeting, PM Modi interacted with the players, including captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant, among others. The Prime Minister heard about their experiences during the tournament and congratulated them on their remarkable achievement.

After the meeting, PM Modi took to social media to share pictures from the meeting, captioning the post, “An excellent meeting with our Champions! Hosted the World Cup winning team at 7, LKM and had a memorable conversation on their experiences through the tournament.”

The team then left for Mumbai, where they were greeted with a grand roadshow and an open bus parade in the evening. The victory parade started at 5:00 p.m. IST at Marine Drive and concluded at Wankhede Stadium, where the players received prize money of Rs 125 crore from BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

India’s historic victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 marked several milestones. The team became the first in T20 World Cup history to win the trophy with a 100%-win record, winning all eight matches played in the tournament. Rohit Sharma also became the first Indian to win two T20 World Cup winners’ medals and the first captain to win 50 T20Is.

Following the victory, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is, along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.
