US President Joe Biden has refused to send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine despite repeated requests for help from Ukrainian authorities. He said this a day after Germany refused to send fighter jets. Ukraine has said it needs fighter jets to control its airspace in its ongoing war with Russia. American F-16 aircraft are considered to be among the most reliable aircraft in the world. Countries like Pakistan and Belgium are also using it. Ukraine now wants to replace the Soviet-era fighter jets with advanced US aircraft, which it got thirty years ago at the time of independence from the Soviet Union. Mr. Biden, however, reportedly turned down Ukraine’s appeal for the fighter jets and insisted on focusing on military cooperation in other areas. The US announced last week that it would give 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Britain and Germany had also talked about similar help.
