In a disturbing trend, Bihar has witnessed its 10th bridge collapse in just over a fortnight, with the latest incident reported from Saran district on Thursday. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The small bridge, built 15 years ago, collapsed over the Gandaki river, disconnecting several villages from neighboring Siwan district.

District Magistrate Aman Samir attributed the collapse to possible heavy rainfall in the area, while a high-level probe has been ordered to investigate the cause. This incident comes a day after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed the road construction and rural works departments to survey all old bridges in the state and identify those requiring immediate repair.
The recent spate of bridge collapses has raised concerns about the maintenance and infrastructure of bridges in Bihar, with incidents reported in Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran, and Kishanganj districts.
