At the Paris Olympics, Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event last night with his season’s best throw of 89.45m. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem then won the gold with a throw of 92.97m, breaking the all-time Olympic record of 90.57m.

Reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has become the first Indian track and field athlete to win two medals since independence. Neeraj Chopra reached the final after leading the qualification round with a throw of 89.34m.
He became the second Indian male athlete and third overall to win consecutive medals at the Olympics after wrestler Sushil Kumar who won bronze and silver in the 2008 and 2012 Games. He also became the fifth Indian to win medals in more than one individual event after Norman Pritchard, Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker.
