Jamshedpur Schools Share Best Practices in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy
Jamshedpur, Aug 14, 2024 – The Tata Education Excellence Programme (TEEP) organized a comprehensive sharing session on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for 39 participants comprising leadership and primary school teachers from 14 TEEP participant schools. The session aimed to enhance the implementation of FLN in schools, as emphasized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Gulmohur High School and Tarapore School, both renowned for their innovative approaches to education, shared their journeys in implementing FLN. The session highlighted practical applications of FLN concepts, innovative teaching methods, technology integration, and assessment techniques.

Resource person Priti Sinha, Principal of Gulmohur High School, shared the steps for implementation of FLN at the school, from research and planning to implementation and teacher training. She elaborated on various ways to integrate art, dance, music, and sports into lessons, making learning engaging and fun for students. Sinha also emphasized the integration of technology in the classroom, showcasing live examples and demos by students and teachers.
Resource person Ishita Dey, Principal of Tarapore School, made complex FLN concepts easy to grasp through engaging storytelling and practical examples. She clarified the assessment types “as, for, and of” learning for the educators and facilitated a discussion on formative and adaptive assessments. Dey showcased Tarapore School’s assessment methods, aligning with National Education Policy (NEP) and FLN guidelines.
Teachers from both schools displayed their innovative teaching aids, demonstrating practical applications of FLN concepts in the classroom. Participants planned to implement new learnings from the session in their schools, accelerating their journey in NEP implementation.
The sharing session was hosted at the Tata Auditorium, Primary Wing, Gulmohur School, and commenced with lamp lighting and prayer. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from educators, eager to enhance their teaching practices and improve student learning outcomes.
About the Tata Education Excellence Program (TEEP)
Started in 2003, the Tata Education Excellence Program (TEEP) enables schools to improve the quality of education through a calibrated approach. This program is currently run in schools in and around Jamshedpur. Schools voluntarily participate in this program, consisting of a year-long engagement after which they are assessed on the education excellence model. The framework of the program is adapted from the renowned Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence criteria.
