AI transforming the relation between humans and animals – moving forward to decode Dog’s bark

Baidu, a Chinese tech company, recently filed a patent with China’s National Intellectual Property Administration for an innovative AI tool aimed at decoding animals’ emotions and establishing a bridge between them and their human owners.

Although the system is still in its research phase, according to the tech giant Baidu, the tool is said to be based on a system that uses multiple data inputs collected from the targeted animals. This includes voice, body language, behavioural changes, and other biological signals. These inputs are then analyzed by the tool to decode their emotional states and translate them accordingly.

The technology aims to reduce the frustration humans face in decoding their pets’ actions while moving forward with the company’s motto of incorporating AI in various fields.

The patent was filed in December but was made public recently, as per a report in the South China Morning Post.

The attempt to understand furry companions is not the first of its kind. In the past, one notable effort was made, named “No More Woof,” a Scandinavian project that raised over ₹18.7 lakh ($22,000) in 2014 but later shut down due to high costs and development challenges.

A spokesperson for the company said that the project seems promising, but no one can predict what the future holds. The integration of advanced AI and multisensory technology appears to offer better results in understanding furry companions and could help deepen the already existing bond between animals and humans.
