Patna Bird Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh and Chhari-Dhand in Gujarat Get Global Recognition This Step Shows Strong Focus on Saving Important Natural Areas
NEW DELHI: India has taken a nice step to protect its wetlands. Just before World Wetlands Day on February 2, two new sites joined the Ramsar network. These are Patna Bird Sanctuary in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh and Chhari-Dhand in Kutch district of Gujarat. Now India has 98 such special wetlands.
Union Minister Bhupender Yadav shared the news on social media. He said these places are home to hundreds of birds that fly in from far away. They also support local animals like chinkara, wolves, caracal, desert cats and foxes. Some rare birds live there too.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi felt happy about it. He wrote that he is delighted with the news. He congratulated people living near these wetlands and those who work to protect nature. “May these wetlands stay safe for all the birds and animals,” he added.
These wetlands do a lot of good work. They give clean water, help plants grow and give homes to wildlife. Chhari-Dhand is a seasonal wetland in the desert area of Kutch. It becomes full of water in rains and attracts many flamingos and other birds.
India has come a long way in wetland protection. Since 2014 the number of Ramsar sites has grown a lot. This shows real care for nature and the environment.
People who love birds and nature are pleased with this news. It is hoped that more such places will get help to stay healthy for years to come.
