KPS Burmamines sweep boys’ and girls’ titles at A.P.R. Nair Memorial Basketball Tournament

Jamshedpur — KPS Burmamines completed a clean sweep of the fifth Late A.P.R. Nair Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament, taking gold in both the boys’ and girls’ categories when the two-day event ended on 9 September.

The tournament, organised by Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS), featured 16 teams — eight boys’ and eight girls’ sides — drawn from schools across the city. The participating institutions were KPS Kadma, KPS Burmamines, KPS Mango, KPS Gamharia, NML Public School, Loyola Telco, Kerala Samajam Hindi School and the host school.

The competition is held in memory of A.P.R. Nair, the late founder-chairman of Kerala Samajam Model School and the Kerala Public School Trust, who died on 9 September 2016. The anniversary has become the customary date for the invitational fixture.

Mr K. Murlidharan was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Mr T. A. Radhakrishnan officiated at the closing function. The event was conducted under the supervision of Academic Director Nandini Shukla, Principal Rina Banerjee, Headmistress Sujata Singh, Vice-Principal A.L. Abraham and Registrar Vrinda Suresh. Coordination was handled by the sports department: Deepak Jagan, Shahbaz Khan, Anjani Kumari, Nihal Singh and Nisha.

Ansh of KPS Burmamines was named Best Player among the boys. Sulagna, also of KPS Burmamines, received the girls’ award.

The school said the tournament had shown talent, teamwork and sportsmanship among the young athletes. It congratulated all participating teams and thanked coaches, officials, parents and supporters for helping the event conclude successfully.
