The celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore for winning the IPL 2025, resulted into a stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium, 11 people died, almost 40 injured. A gathered crowd of 2-3 lakh fans around the streets, the stampede broke out around 4 pm, more than 15 people, including a woman, fell on the ground rushing towards Gate 3 of the stadium. Some blame the team while some blame the management.
The finals for IPL were held this Tuesday in Ahmedabad with RCB standing victorious against Punjab Kings, decided to celebrate their win in Bengaluru on Wednesday. On Wednesday afternoon as the team arrived at HAL Airport, the felicitation programme was supposed to take place at Vidhana Soudha. After that the team was set to victory parade on an open bus, many fans gathered in front of Vidhana Soudha, while thousands gathered in the road between Cubbon Park and Chinnaswamy Stadium.
After this incident, a police complaint filed against cricketer Virat Kohli on Friday due to the unfortunate stampede that broke out, some reports says that social activist HM Venkatesh filed the complaint. The complaint would be examined as it is considered under an already registered case. In the complaint, Virat Kohli has been accused of promoting gambling through IPL, stating it as the reason why the crowd gathered that led to the misshapen.
Venkatesh also alleged that IPL is “not a sport but a gambling that has contaminated the game of cricket”. Venkatesh said that Virat Kohli has continuously participated the most in IPL gambling that incited people to follow up the crowd, also requested to make Virat Kohli and his fellow members accused in the FIR and take further action.
Some netizens blame Virat Kohli and #Arrestkohli has been trending on social media platforms while other netizens say that the Bengaluru stampede happened due to the failure of management. Netizens state the players didn’t organize the event, Blame the system, not the players as they just showed up and left.
