Jamshedpur: Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC), Jamshedpur, marked a significant milestone by hosting its first convocation ceremony at its Baridih campus. The event was held as part of the 33rd Convocation of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), during which 133 MBBS students from the 2020-21 academic batch were awarded their degrees.

The graduating students constitute the institution’s first MBBS batch and are now set to begin their professional journey in the healthcare sector.

MAHE Vice Chancellor Dr. Sharat K. Rao conferred degrees on the graduates and extended his best wishes for their future careers. The ceremony was attended by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar as the chief guest, while K. Vijay Kumar, Senior Security Advisor in the Ministry of Home Affairs, participated as the guest of honour.

Among those present were D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel; Somnath Das, Officer on Special Duty, MAHE; and Brigadier (Dr.) H.S. Bandhu, Dean of MTMC, along with other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Santosh Gangwar said education and healthcare are among the most effective instruments for bringing positive change in society. He urged the graduating doctors to serve with dedication, compassion and a strong sense of responsibility.

Highlighting the growing role of technology in healthcare, the Governor said that despite rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and modern medical systems, human empathy, trust and emotional connection with patients will continue to remain at the core of medical practice.

Speaking virtually, Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari said the role of doctors extends beyond treating illnesses. Building trust among patients and supporting them during difficult times, he noted, is equally important.

K. Vijay Kumar encouraged the young doctors to uphold integrity, embrace continuous learning and value teamwork throughout their professional careers.

Dr. Sharat K. Rao stated that MTMC is steadily establishing itself as a centre for excellence in medical education, research and innovation. He expressed confidence that the institution’s first graduating batch would successfully meet the evolving challenges of modern healthcare.
