Jamshedpur, October 2, 2024 – On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, a special tribute event was held at Gandhi Leprosy Ashram-Devnagar, Baradwari, organized by the District Leprosy Prevention Office of East Singhbhum. The event was not only a homage to the Father of the Nation but also featured a one-day free health camp focusing on skin diseases, diabetes, and blood pressure.
Dr. Jogeshwar Prasad, Additional Chief Medical Officer of East Singhbhum, emphasized the importance of integrating Gandhian ideals into daily life during his speech. He highlighted the need for honesty and integrity in serving society, especially in the pursuit of a “leprosy-free society.” Dr. Prasad also remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri, urging everyone to follow the ideals set by these great leaders.
The health camp, held in the ashram’s auditorium, saw 78 people receiving medical examinations. Four new cases of leprosy were identified, and attendees also received essential aids like walking sticks, crutches, self-care kits, and MCR slippers.
Dr. Mrityunjay Dhauriya, District Leprosy Prevention Officer, provided insights into the ongoing public welfare schemes for leprosy patients in the district. He reported that 127 new leprosy patients were identified under the Leprosy Search Campaign, with all receiving free Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT).
The event concluded with participants taking an oath towards leprosy eradication, underscoring the community’s commitment to public health and social inclusion.
