New Delhi, August 19: The 10th edition of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise, MITRA SHAKTI, which began on August 12, 2024, is currently underway at the Army Training School in Maduru Oya, Sri Lanka. Scheduled to run until August 25, 2024, the exercise focuses on advanced urban combat techniques and collaborative military operations.

Sniper rifles play a pivotal role in modern warfare, serving as powerful force multipliers. They are not only crucial for engaging targets but also for instilling psychological fear in the enemy, thereby facilitating the progress of military operations. During the ongoing exercise, both Indian and Sri Lankan forces have demonstrated their proficiency with various sniper systems.

India has deployed the 8.68 mm Sako sniper rifles from Finland and the 7.62 mm Dragunov sniper rifles from Russia. In contrast, Sri Lanka is utilizing the 7.62 mm Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Rifle (AIAW) from the UK.

In a key exercise scenario, detachments from both nations occupied strategic heights, established sniper grids, and cleared pathways for advancing columns. This practical exercise aims to refine tactics in built-up areas and improve joint operational capabilities.
