NEW DELHI, India – With Cyclone Dana approaching the Indian coastline, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has stepped up its operations, implementing robust measures to mitigate potential risks to life and property. The Ministry of Defence has detailed the ICG’s strategic response, emphasizing a proactive approach to cyclone preparedness.
Monitoring and Advisory Services
The ICG has intensified surveillance through ships, aircraft, and remote operating stations, particularly along the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha. These units have been broadcasting continuous weather warnings and safety advisories to fishermen and mariners. The advisories urge all sea-going vessels to return to harbor and remain docked until the cyclone has passed to ensure their safety.
Strategic Deployment
In anticipation of emergencies, the ICG has redeployed its fleet strategically, positioning vessels and aircraft to cover the most vulnerable areas. This deployment facilitates rapid response capabilities for search, rescue, and relief operations should the need arise.
Community Engagement
Efforts to inform and educate coastal communities have been ramped up, with ICG personnel working alongside local authorities. Alerts have been disseminated through village leaders and other local channels, advising against any marine activities during the cyclone’s duration.
Preparedness for Aftermath
The ICG remains on high alert, with disaster relief teams and equipment ready for deployment. This preparedness aims to address any aftermath scenarios, ensuring swift assistance and relief to affected areas.
