Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, Telangana MLA Lasya Nandita died in a horrific road accident on Friday morning. The 37-year-old legislator from Secunderabad Cantonment was travelling in a SUV when her driver lost control and crashed into the road divider on the Patancheru Outer Ring Road.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 2:30 am when Nandita was returning from Basara after attending a religious function. Her driver, who was critically injured, is suspected to have fallen asleep at the wheel. Her personal security officer also sustained minor injuries in the accident.
Nandita was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Her body was later shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.
Her sudden death has sent shockwaves across the state and the political fraternity. BRS supremo and former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed his condolences and assured all support to her family. Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy also mourned her passing and said that he had a close relationship with her father. He prayed for her soul to rest in peace.
Nandita, who was born in 1986 in Hyderabad, was a first-time MLA and a prominent figure in the Telangana political landscape. She had previously served as a corporator from Kavadiguda since 2016. She entered politics after the demise of her father, G Sayanna, who was also an MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment, in February last year. She won the seat in the November 2023 assembly elections on a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) ticket.
