The Indian Space Research Organisation-ISRO received the joint Synthetic Aperture Radar-NISAR satellite of the US space agency NASA and ISRO in Bengaluru yesterday. Developed jointly by NASA and ISRO, this satellite will analyze the Earth’s surface and generate data. It will be used in many areas including agriculture, landslide and disaster management.

It was brought to Bengaluru by a US Air Force C17 cargo aircraft. The satellite will undergo various tests at the UR Rao Satellite Center in Bengaluru. This space mission is part of Indo-US civil space cooperation. This advanced radar system will study natural hazards, melting sea ice and groundwater supplies. It will be launched early next year from ISRO’s GSLV Mark II at Sriharikota.
