Thousands of people demonstrated yesterday in the capital Port-au-Prince, demanding protection from violent gangs looting Haiti. The United Nations Security Council has considered deploying international armed forces to Haiti, but continuous violence has disrupted the lives of Haitians and increased poverty in the country. Police also clashed with many masked people during the demonstration. During this, people demanding security and help also set government vehicles on fire. According to eyewitnesses, the administration later used tear gas to disperse the protesters. The United Nations has claimed that more than 5.2 million people in Haiti are in need of humanitarian assistance.
