Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order Amendment Bill 2023 passed in Parliament today

Parliament today passed the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order Amendment Bill 2023. Lok Sabha had already cleared the bill while Rajya Sabha passed it today. The Bill amends the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Castes in Chhattisgarh. The Bill includes Mahara and Mehra communities as synonymous with Mehra, Mahar and Mehar communities in Chhattisgarh.

Responding to the discussion, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar said that this bill will improve the lives and conditions of these communities in Chhattisgarh. He said that in the last nine years, the Narendra Modi government has taken many decisions for the welfare of the deprived sections of the society. Shri Kumar said that the results of these initiatives can be seen in the society today. He said that the NDA government has been successful in winning the hearts of the people.
